The Proposal(s)
As we all gathered at the table for our last lunch in Tulum, Wes shared that he had a special announcement.
I was fresh out of the ocean with a wet swimsuit and salty-sandy, uncombed hair.
Wes parents’ and brother were on one side of the table and my mom and my grandma on the other.
Without another word, Wes gets up from his chair and starts getting down on one knee.
“Oh! Oh! Wait! Wait! Hold on!!”
All 3 of our parents realize they don’t have their phones to capture the moment. 😆
Everyone gets up from the table except for my grandma, who still has no idea what’s going on.
I point to the ring box in Wes’ hand and her eyes slowly widen. 👵🏼😳
That’s when I realize our villa host and the grounds manager are both recording/taking photos of us. 🙈
I call my mom back to the table, but everyone else stays back a few more minutes to allow for a photo of just us two.
In my proposal dreams, Wes and I would be alone in an intimate, magical place watching the sunset (or sunrise), all romantic-like. But that’s never how Wes imagined it. I love him for wanting to share the moment with our family (he talked to my dad on the phone just a few hours before). ..and for not noticing or caring what any of us looked like. Actually, he might have proposed to me like that on purpose!
I love that my mom and grandma are right behind me. Wes might as well know that marrying me means my mom and grandma are never too far from the picture. 🙃
In conclusion, I said yes...duh! 💍
LATER ON…
We tried staging a second proposal with a little more clothes on and slightly better-combed hair...
…and he opened the box towards himself. 😂
I didn’t expect to laugh so much on our engagement day. It was perfectly silly, just like Wes!
